Stage 1 Remap · Chester

Chester has two kinds of driver and they want different things from a remap. If your week is the A55 or the M53, you are after a car that sits at cruising speed without working hard. If it is the ring road and the school run, you want it easier to drive at low speed. We come to you and write the map with the honest version of your week in mind.
A lot of Chester driving is a proper run: the A55 west towards Deeside and North Wales, the M53 north to the Wirral and the tunnels, the M56 east towards Manchester and the airport, or the A483 down to Wrexham. On that kind of journey the useful change is in the middle of the rev range, where the car pulls up a slip road or past something without needing a downshift, and where a diesel in particular can sit at motorway speed at lower revs. That is also where any economy benefit tends to show, though only if the car is driven the same way afterwards.

A Stage 1 remap adjusts the engine's ECU calibration, meaning fuelling, boost and ignition timing, to use the headroom the engine already has. No hardware changes are needed. We write a custom map for your specific vehicle from your original ECU data rather than loading a generic off the shelf file, and we run a free health check before any tuning to make sure the car is in a fit state to take it.
Chester city centre is not a straightforward place to work on a car, between the walls, the pedestrianised streets and the parking. That is worth thinking about before you book anything mobile, ours included. In practice most jobs happen at people on their own driveway in the suburbs, at an office car park at Chester Business Park, or at a workplace out towards Ellesmere Port or Deeside. Usually yes, if there is somewhere safe to park and work and we can road test afterwards. Doing it while you are at work suits a lot of people better than giving up a Saturday. Check with whoever manages the car park first.

A Stage 1 remap is a software only adjustment to the engine control unit. No hardware changes are needed. We adjust fuelling, boost and ignition to improve power, torque and drivability within safe limits.
When done properly, with a health check beforehand and sensible targets, Stage 1 remapping is safe on a healthy engine. We only proceed if the vehicle passes our checks, and we will tell you if it does not.
