DPF & EGR Solutions · Shropshire
Diesel emissions fault finding across Oswestry, Whitchurch, Ellesmere and Shrewsbury.
Shropshire produces a DPF problem that does not look like the town version of it. The engine is not doing short cold trips. It is running for hours at low speed and low load, which loads a filter for a completely different reason and catches people out.
A particulate filter regenerates when the exhaust gets hot enough for long enough, and what produces that heat is load, not time. A pickup manoeuvring round a yard, a vehicle idling while something is loaded, slow work up a field, crawling behind machinery on a lane: all of that runs the engine for a long time while producing soot and almost no exhaust heat. The owner reasonably thinks the vehicle does plenty of hours, so a blocked filter feels unfair. It is not about hours. It is about whether the engine was ever properly worked.
We cover Oswestry, Whitchurch, Ellesmere, Wem, Market Drayton and Shrewsbury and the villages between them, and travel towards Chirk, Ruabon and Wrexham. See our areas we cover page for the full list or get in touch to confirm we can reach you.
DPF warning lights, EGR faults and related emissions problems are common on modern diesels, and the same light comes from several very different causes. Before recommending any fix we carry out a full diagnostic check with dealer level equipment to understand exactly what the vehicle is reporting, including sensor readings and regeneration history. From there we tell you what is actually appropriate for your vehicle. We will not suggest work that is not right for it, and we will tell you when the answer is that nothing needs doing yet.
If that description fits your vehicle, the cheapest thing to try is a proper run: the A5, the A49 or the A483 at a steady speed, under load, long enough for everything to get thoroughly hot. Doing that regularly rather than once is what keeps a filter healthy on a vehicle that otherwise spends its life crawling. Plenty of early stage complaints improve on that alone, and we would rather tell you than sell you something. If it comes straight back, the system needs reading and we can do that on your yard.

Because a filter needs exhaust heat, and heat comes from load rather than running time. Yard manoeuvring, idling and slow field work make soot without ever getting the exhaust hot enough to burn it off. It is a very common pattern out here and it surprises people.
A sustained run under load on the A5, A49 or A483, at a steady speed, long enough for everything to get properly hot. If the light clears and stays off, the filter was loading rather than failing. If it returns quickly, something else is going on.
Yes, along with Oswestry, Whitchurch, Ellesmere and Wem. Ask if you are further out and we will tell you straight.
A loaded or failing filter, a differential pressure or temperature sensor reading wrongly, regenerations that keep being interrupted, or a fault upstream such as an EGR problem producing more soot than the filter was designed to see. They present identically on the dash, which is why we diagnose before recommending anything.
Yes. EGR faults are a common cause of poor running, warning lights and excess soot reaching the filter. We diagnose first and only recommend work that is appropriate for the vehicle.
