Stage 1 Remap · the Wirral

Most Wirral driving is short. Down the M53 a few junctions, across to a tunnel, round to Bromborough or over to West Kirby. That shapes what is actually worth changing on a car here, and it is not the top end.
Peak power arrives at revs that a Wirral commute rarely visits. What you use constantly is the bottom and middle of the range: pulling away in a tunnel queue, joining the M53 from a short slip road, getting across the A41 in a gap. That is where a Stage 1 map does something you feel every day rather than something you feel twice a year. On diesels in particular the extra torque low down makes the car easier to drive at exactly the speeds the peninsula runs at.

A Stage 1 remap adjusts the engine's ECU calibration, meaning fuelling, boost and ignition timing, to use the headroom the engine already has. No hardware changes are needed. We write a custom map for your specific vehicle from your original ECU data rather than loading a generic off the shelf file, and we run a free health check before any tuning to make sure the car is in a fit state to take it.
Be straight with us about that when you get in touch, because it changes the conversation in two ways. A car that never gets properly hot is a car we want to check the condition of before tuning anything, and on a diesel a short journey pattern raises questions about the filter that are worth answering first. We would rather look at that and tell you the remap can wait than take the job and leave you with a warning light a month later.
Most Stage 1 remap visits take around 1 to 2 hours from arrival to road test. As a general guide:

It can be, but we would want to check the vehicle first, and on a diesel we would want to know the filter is in good order before tuning. A short journey pattern is hard on a car, and a remap does not fix that. We will tell you honestly if we think something else needs sorting first.

A Stage 1 remap is a software only adjustment to the engine control unit. No hardware changes are needed. We adjust fuelling, boost and ignition to improve power, torque and drivability within safe limits.
When done properly, with a health check beforehand and sensible targets, Stage 1 remapping is safe on a healthy engine. We only proceed if the vehicle passes our checks, and we will tell you if it does not.
